Meet Brandywine Polo Club
Rich in History, Long on Resilience & Committed to Polo's Future
Meet one of the oldest polo clubs on the East Coast, the Brandywine Polo Club, whose history is as rich as it’s grounds are beautiful. Located on 122 acres amongst the rolling hills of southern Chester County, near Kennett Square, Pa. Brandywine Polo was founded in 1951by James McHugh, a former intercollegiate Yale player.
Today Brandywine Polo is now the largest USPA club on the Eastern Circuit with 10 USPA Sanctioned Tournaments, 4 grass fields, 1 full size arena, a hitting cage, exercise track, 100 stalls and an excellent polo school run by Argentine Ata Alonso. Public Matches are held Fridays 5:30pm & Sundays 3pm with a special evening series called "Starlight Polo" at 6pm in the arena 2x monthly. Tickets are purchased online or at the Gate day of event.
Manager
Martin Eddy
Originally from Argentina, Martin Eddy is the manager at the Brandywine Polo Club. As a fourth-generation polo player who learned the sport from his father and his uncles, he comes from a long line of top-rated polo professionals who are highly regarded in the world of polo. His favorite horse is Papucho, his favorite shot is the offside back shot and his favorite field position is #2 offense. When not playing polo or managing Brandywine Martin Eddy can be found winning tournaments throughout the Florida Circuit or as a fishing guide in the Patagonia region of Argentina.

Lessons
Ata Alonso
Origanlly from Las Pampas, Argentina, Atahualpa Alonso (Ata) began riding horses before he could walk. After moving to Buenos Aires, he began training horses for high-goal players, and traveling to over 15 countries working for polo teams such as La Dolfina, Lechuza Caracas, Les Leon, Black Bears, and Las Monjitas as well as legendary polo families, Ulloas and Merlos. Today he is the instructor at Brandywine Polo, teaches lessons, leases horses, and instructs coaching chukkers.
