Everyone's favorite, Juan Martinez-Baez will be returning to Brandywine this year for his fifteenth season with us. A native of Tecamac, near Mexico City, Juan grew up around polo and started riding at age six. His father rode and worked in polo and taught his son how to play. After playing and working around polo in Mexico, Juan moved to the United States in 1991 and began playing professionally.
Juan is a former six goal player and plays professionally at Brandywine in the summer and then Alabama and Florida in the winter, plus many other places in between.
Juan is an excellent horseman, player and USPA Certified Polo Instructor but, more importantly, also the epitome of sportsmanship on the field. Juan always plays with a smile on his face and an infectious laugh. He is quick with a helpful suggestion to the new players and readily passes the ball to keep all involved. Some of the pickup games during the week in the club's arena are some of the most entertaining games you will play.
Juan's son Carlos is an up and coming player and also a regular fixture at BPC.
Welcome back Juan, the heart of Brandywine.
